SATECO
Providing Technical and Vocation Training
Location
Salima Technical College (SATECO) is a government-owned technical college beautifully situated along the shores of Lake Malawi at Senga Bay in Salima district, approximately 140 km east of Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe.
Establishment
Salima Technical College opened its doors on 1 November 1971 as the Youth Rural Trade School. Our journey began with 75 farmers selected from the Central Region Lakeshore Development Area under a project funded by the Federal Republic of Germany through Salima Agricultural Development Division (ADD). The initial focus was on imparting knowledge and skills in metalwork and building to help farmers construct decent homes and utilize energy-saving farm equipment.
Over the decades, the college has evolved through several transformations:
1975: Transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, focusing on young pioneers and introducing vegetable growing
1998: Relocated to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training by presidential directive
Present: Operating under the Ministry of Labour, enrolling youth who have completed secondary school education from all districts of Malawi
